Renowned underground duo Neverdogs are back with their second release of 2024, presenting a blistering new club-ready single, ‘Technology,’ on their esteemed imprint Bamboleo Records.
A certified terrace roller, ‘Technology’ is overflowing with Neverdogs’ signature undulating style, with endless layers of percussive drive and punchy grooves. With a nod to the unstoppable rise of AI, the track features arpeggiating acid lines, vivid pads, and silky synths, all topped with a catchy vocal line. This head-turning peak-time heater is primed to dominate dancefloors around the globe.
To celebrate the release of their latest work, we caught up with Neverdogs to discuss Bamboleo and beyond. Enjoy!
WWD: What inspired you to pursue a music career, and how did you come together to form Neverdogs?
Tommy: I had a deep passion for music from a young age. I remember being 13 years old and attending a club in my city for the first time. I fell in love with the DJ’s ability to make people dance. From that moment, I decided to pursue a music career.
Marco: I was born into a family where my father was a DJ, and my uncle still plays in various clubs in our city today. My passion for music has always been a part of me.
We were both born in the same city in southern Italy. In 1999, we played together during the summer. From that moment on, we were inseparable; the musical and personal connection was too strong. In 2000, in Florence, Italy, the Neverdogs project was born. We have now been working together for 24 years.
WWD: Your discography includes a wide range of singles, EPs, and albums. How do you approach the creative process when working on different types of releases?
We usually start by defining our objective, such as which label we want to release our tracks on. Then, while maintaining our unique musical style and personality, we choose the sounds and equipment to use.
WWD: Your latest release, ‘Technology’, hints at the ever-expanding presence of AI in the music space. Did anything in particular inspire this track?
This song was born from the desire to convey a strong message to both the old and new generations. We wanted to highlight how artificial intelligence, social media, and the robotics industry might soon erase the human aspects of our lives, such as love, passion, and forgiveness. This new era could make us apathetic and distance us from one another.
WWD: As artists who have performed at various events and festivals, what’s your favourite part about performing live, and how do you connect with your audience during your sets?
There isn’t a single aspect of performing that stands out above the rest. Each set is unique. We love everything about DJing, from the warmup to the closing track. The best way to connect with the audience is to have fun while playing. When we perform, we’re telling a story about ourselves and that moment. If we tell that story well through music and the audience responds positively, that’s the best way to connect with them.
WWD: Your Bamboleo brand continues to grow at an impressive rate. What can fans expect regarding events and releases for the rest of 2024?
We are planning the second edition of the Bamboleo Water Park Fest in Desenzano Del Garda and will soon announce another date in collaboration with After Caposile. We’re also working on returning to Fabric in London and scheduling new dates in South America and Spain.
WWD: Your music is known for blending different genres and styles. Can you share how your diverse musical influences contribute to your unique sound?
Our unique sound stems from thirty years of experience in the music scene. Although we’ve been playing together for 24 years, we each began our careers many years before that. Music is cyclical, with genres constantly evolving and resurfacing. Our past experiences naturally influence our choice of tracks, making our sets unique and reflective of our souls.
WWD: How has your approach to creating and producing music evolved from the early days of Neverdogs to the present?
Our evolution is linked to the continuous and rapid growth of technology. However, since the early days of Neverdogs, our passion and love for what we do have remained the same.
WWD: Your live sets and online mixes always offer a curated selection of tracks. What do you look for when selecting music to feature, and how do you keep your playlists fresh and engaging for your listeners?
Every day and every week, we listen to and download music from various sources, including online platforms and direct contact with artists we like. It’s important not to focus on a single musical genre, as today’s music often blends multiple styles. Constant research and staying true to our musical tastes help us curate unique and engaging playlists.
WWD: With a significant global online following, how do you stay connected with your fans, and what role does social media play in building and nurturing your fan base?
Staying connected with our fans is crucial, and social media plays a vital role. Platforms like Instagram and Facebook allow us to share updates, new music releases, behind-the-scenes moments, and glimpses into our daily lives, creating a sense of closeness and connection with our followers. Social media is not just a communication tool but also a way to build an active and passionate community around our music, nurturing our relationship with fans worldwide.
WWD: As artists who have collaborated with other musicians and producers, what do you value the most in a collaborative partnership, and how does it influence the creative direction of your work?
In collaborations, exchanging and understanding the perspectives, techniques, and ideas of the artists we work with is valuable. There’s always something to learn from this exchange, which positively influences our creativity.
WWD: We love that. Thanks for the chat, boys!
