As the summer drifts in the vibrant months of autumn, we’re thrilled to revisit Eduardo McGregor’s second EP on the imprint – Tal Vez Soñar. The Mexican maestro has showcased a distinct knack for global grooves, percussive rhythms, and rich melodies. He’s a unique talent within dance music – a multi instrumentalist, composer, and educator. McGregor’s true musicianship brings distinct quality to his productions, and we continue explorations into original organic territories with a set of sensational remixes.
Hole Box & Vite follow up a terrific EP on Tale & Tone with their remix on the project’s namesake – Tal Vez Soñar. Driven percussion and rotating rhythms provide a deep ambiance, shifting effortlessly through melodic moods. The groove is ever-present, ensuring listeners are entrenched in the foundation of dance as Tal Vez Soñar’s signature vocal performance arrives in full.
Anjunadeep’s JFR makes his debut on TOR, also taking the reins on Eduardo’s Tal Vez Soñar. He decompresses the arrangement with a blissed-out tone and sets the spotlight on elongated vocal touches. A smooth and dreamy roller from the Argentinian!
Massio & Josta take on Nothing In The Dark, harnessing psychedelic tones and swirling soundscapes, playing with the mind while providing crisp percussion to please the senses. They touch upon global influences with dips and dives into diverse crevices of organic house flavor.
Closing us out is Ilias Katelanos & Plecta, who provide an immensely vibey remix of the B-side. Rich synthetics ebb & flow over a groove-laden bassline, as a break in energy offers devious dancefloor moments. An ominously opulent production from the pair, and one sure to find the bag of global selectors for late summer shows.
To celebrate the release of the ‘Tal Vez Sonar’ Remixes we had a chat with the Mexican producer on how he chose the remix artists and what is next on his list.
WWD: Eduardo, thanks for joining us and many congrats on the release.
Hello team! Happy to connect again.
WWD: What do you look for when considering a track to remix?
Well lately I’ve been doing a lot of remixes and re-edits, so one of the reasons is to have original music when I play “live sets” but without a doubt the most important thing for me is if I really feel the track at first listen or if I feel like I can add a touch of my style without betraying the original, in fact I have rejected several remix proposals sometimes because I don’t feel the track or because I feel that the song is just fine the way as it is.
WWD: What a group you rounded up! How did you connect with these artists?
Well indeed, I met Ilias when I made a remix for him then I heard about Plecta because of the incredible re-edit that he did of “hostage” by Billie Ellish, from there we started to get along and I maintained a good relationship with both, they’re great. I truly admire them. I also met Josta and Massio because they are Mexican too and I loved the last work they did for Keyfound records. From then on I started to get along and I made them the proposal. I met JFR because we are in the same agency (musique de lune) I love his music and so I asked him if he was interested in the remix, and well with Hole Box I’ve had a very good friendship for over a year now, he is a guy I admire and appreciate and also consider him a great producer. He decided to include VITE and of course I accepted, VITE is one of the most respected guys in the Mexican scene, and I hope to meet him soon.
WWD: What has been your proudest release of your career thus far?
“A nice place to visit“ (upcoming this year on ADID ) or maybe “Fooled You” the first one that I released with TRYBESof or “Tal Vez Soñar”. I can’t choose between those three.
WWD: If you could open a show for any artist who would it be?
Ok this is a tough one but Nick Warren, Lee Burridge, Danny Tenaglia, Danny Howells or Hernan Cattaneo.
WWD: How was your summer? Any shows that were particularly memorable?
Well private events are the best ones! Hahaha but speaking about open shows definitely the burning sun in montreal with Jim and on the rooftop at flamingos in Morelia.
WWD: What would you say was your song of the summer?
I listened to very good music this summer for example “Mangroove” and “beyond the depths” by Dim Kelly, Flowers in Sea by Thales Senses, “Solnce” by Krasa Rosa and a secret re-edit that my friend DSF sent me. From my music I would probably say “perchance to dream”, “never sleep”, and “nothing in the dark”.
WWD: What is next for Eduardo? Any upcoming projects or shows we should know about?
Well definitely a lot of music and gigs for the next few months!
I have some tracks soon on All Day I Dream, Renaissance and Songuara many remixes for Keyfound, Stellar Fountain, Where The Shadow ends, Stripped and a remix for the classic “ cascades of colour” by ananda project (which has me very excited) and many projects in development with Madraas, Dulus, Mitch Oliver, Sinca, Laure, Ivan Aliaga and Leon Lobato.
Talking about gigs, I have some shows in Toronto, Montreal, New York, Mexico City, Leon, Tulum and Merida.
WWD: Eduardo, thanks again for joining us. We hope to see you in Montreal again real soon!
Definitely! We’ll see each other in a few months! Always a pleasure talking with you guys!
