In the dynamic world of electronic music, few artists manage to leave a mark as distinct as Blastoyz. Known for his ability to seamlessly blend the hypnotic intensity of psytrance with elements of other genres, he has emerged as a pioneer in pushing the boundaries of the scene. From topping global festival lineups at Tomorrowland and Ultra to curating innovative tracks on his WELVRAVE label, Blastoyz’s journey has been one of constant evolution and creativity. In this interview, we dive into the story behind his latest remix of Moby’s iconic ‘Lift Me Up’ in collaboration with Berg, his thoughts on the rise of psytrance, and how his roots in Israel shaped his unmistakable sound.
WWD: Hey Blastoyz, great to chat with you! What inspired you to remix Moby’s iconic track ‘Lift Me Up,’ and how did this collaboration with Berg come to life?
Thanks for having me! ‘Lift Me Up’ is one of those timeless tracks that carries so much emotion and energy. When Berg and I decided to work together, we knew we wanted to pay homage to something iconic while giving it a psytrance twist. Moby’s music has always been inspiring, and when the opportunity came to rework this classic, we jumped at it. The process felt organic—melding the nostalgia of the original with our vision for the dance floor.
WWD: Your sound is known for combining psytrance with other genres. How does this remix push the boundaries of your signature style?
For this remix, we brought in elements of melodic and progressive energy while keeping the high-intensity, hypnotic beats psytrance is known for. It was about finding a balance between staying true to Moby’s emotive essence and injecting our unique sound design. It’s a perfect example of how psytrance can evolve while staying powerful and uplifting.
WWD: Moby is a legendary figure in electronic music. What was it like to receive his approval for this remix on your WELVRAVE imprint?
Honestly, it was surreal. Moby has influenced so many artists across genres, including myself. To get his nod of approval felt like a huge milestone—not just for me, but for psytrance as a whole. Having the remix released on my label WELVRAVE adds an extra layer of pride since it aligns with my vision of pushing boundaries in electronic music.
WWD: You’ve performed at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra. How does it feel to see psytrance represented on such massive stages?
It’s an incredible feeling! Psytrance has always had a loyal underground following, but seeing it explode on these global stages is something else. Festivals like Tomorrowland and Ultra bring such diverse audiences, and having psytrance take a spotlight there is proof of how much the genre is evolving and resonating worldwide.
WWD: Tracks like ‘Mandala and ‘After Dark’ have become huge streaming hits. What do you think makes your music resonate so deeply with global audiences?
I think it’s the energy and emotion. Psytrance connects on a deep level because it’s not just about the drop—it’s about the journey. My goal has always been to tell a story through my music, and I think listeners feel that. Plus, the combination of powerful basslines and uplifting melodies creates something universal that transcends language and culture.
WWD: Your label, WELVRAVE records, has become a hub for innovative sounds. What’s the vision behind the label, and how does it shape projects like this remix?
WELVRAVE is all about breaking barriers and giving artists the freedom to experiment. The label’s vision is to bring fresh, boundary-pushing psytrance to the forefront while staying connected to its roots. This remix is a perfect example of that—reinterpreting a classic while keeping the innovative spirit alive.
WWD: You’ve collaborated with major names in the industry, such as Seven Lions and Remixed Illenium song. How do these collaborations challenge and inspire your creativity?
Collaborations like these push me to think differently. Artists like Seven Lions and Illenium come from different backgrounds, so when we combine our styles, it opens up new possibilities. It’s always exciting to see how psytrance can blend with melodic dubstep or bass music—it keeps my creative process fresh and dynamic.
WWD: You’ve been ranked in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs for two years running. What does that recognition mean to you as an artist pushing psytrance into the mainstream?
It’s an honor, and it motivates me to keep pushing the genre forward. Psytrance is still a niche in many ways, but seeing it gain recognition on a mainstream level shows that people are connecting with it more than ever. It’s a win for the entire psytrance community.
WWD: Looking back, how did your early days growing up in Israel and experimenting with music as a teenager shape the producer you are today?
Growing up in Israel was a huge influence. The electronic music scene there is so vibrant, and psytrance has deep roots in the culture. Starting as a teenager, I was constantly surrounded by diverse psytrance sounds, which shaped my approach to production. It taught me to embrace experimentation and stay true to my instincts.
WWD: What can fans expect from your upcoming projects, both as an artist and with WELVRAVE Records? Do you have plans to explore more cross-genre remixes like this one?
Absolutely! Fans can expect more collaborations, cross-genre remixes, and, of course, some high-energy psytrance bangers. WELVRAVE will continue to be a platform for pushing new ideas and supporting rising talent. I’m also working on a few surprises that I can’t share just yet—but trust me, it’s going to be exciting!
