Award-winning artist and producer Ben Böhmer shares his highly anticipated third studio album, ‘Bloom’. The 11-track LP, which brings his innate skill and passion for songwriting and composing to the foreground, is out now on Ninja Tune.
Ben has delivered ‘Bloom’ as a confident reassertion of his improvisational origins as a songwriter. Despite the success of over 1 billion streams, one of the most-viewed live electronic sets on YouTube (34M+ views), and performing over 200 times in 2022, Ben’s talent as a musician has been compartmentalised, in a way, until now. Having developed his piano-playing talent from a young age, Ben can craft deeply emotive music equipped with just a piano, a microphone, and his computer. By opening himself up, Ben has earned the trust of and received stellar performances from collaborators such as indie pop icon Lykke Li, synth-pop duo Oh Wonder, and more. The songs on ‘Bloom’ reach far outside the pre-fabricated boxes he’s been put into as an artist.
While Ben’s explorations of new genres and tempos have garnered the support of indie tastemakers like Pitchfork, Line of Best Fit, and XLR8R, a steadfast thread of his signature melancholy electronica runs through the entire tracklist. From the very first piano notes of the introductory track ‘Martin,’ Ben’s melodies are the stars of the show, whether in orbit with vocals by The Blaze’s Enfant Sauvage on ‘Evermore’ or rooted by grounding dancefloor rhythms on ‘Rust.’
‘The Sun,’ the project’s final single, perfectly encapsulates the feeling of rebirth throughout Bloom. Featuring alt/dance pop duo Oh Wonder’s Josephine Vander West, Ben toes the line between his established sound and his sophisticated instincts as a composer. Empowering, heartfelt lyrics compliment the instrumental with messages of overcoming hardship and emerging into power and enlightenment.
Ben is fresh off several major performances, including festivals such as Sonar by Night and a closing set at Lollapalooza, and served as direct support for ODESZA’s stadium tour at The Gorge and Madison Square Garden & more. He’ll round out his North American tour with a stop at Portola before heading to Australia, where he’ll perform in music halls across Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. Then, he’ll head back to Europe for a string of fall shows, including a stop at the Great Hall of Alexandra Palace.
