Wehbba is back with the second instalment on his new platform HIFN, titled Ticprei / Llull.
Here Wehbba draws inspiration from the streets, and how dynamic, diverse and culturally intense it is to find yourself simply walking through your own neighbourhood. Lead track ‘Ticprei’ has elements of beatboxing, inherently linked to street artists and the hip hop culture, as well as skate boarding, graffiti and more. With a full bodied acid backbone and moments of intense contrast, it reflects the intensity of life on the streets of a big metropolis.
‘Llull’ however, is a more introspective jam, written during one of Wehbba’s walks through his old neighbourhood of Poblenou in Barcelona. “I had the idea for the melody while walking from my place to the studio, and recorded it on my phone, while the app also allowed to make some beats to go along, so I sketched the whole thing as I was walking from point A to point B.”
As with every HIFN release, the third track features soundscapes built from elements of the two tracks, creating the Ticpre/Llull Wordscape. This time Wehbba invited long time friend and collaborator Joyce Muniz, to recite the words from the poem associated with the release. Joyce captures the mood and feeling by delivering an introspective yet dynamic performance, and together with the sound design reflects the often solitary chaos of life out in the streets.
The artwork on HIFN002 features an exclusive piece by Grassano, an abstract painter and digital artist from Brazil, who captured the essence of the words and music into a beautifully chaotic and expressive painting, paying tribute to the graffiti aesthetics while evoking true emotion with careful use of abstract shapes and colors.
HIFN002 emerges as a captivating exploration of the symbiotic relationship between sound, art, and life on the streets.
