There are too many to be mentioned, but I loved the new VENTURE X shows as they allowed me to take my audience on a musical journey beyond trance and progressive, and of course the SOLIKIEN live show with my band at Dreamstate SoCal.

This is a hard one as I don’t have a clear favorite, but let’s say ‘George Smeddles – Love’. I played it every set for a year, and it came out on my label NATURE. It’s been one of my favourite Hoosier tunes.
Your standout moment of 2023?
There’s been too many but it has to be my party at COMUNA 13. We had about 3000 people show up in the favelas in Medellin (Colombia) and party all day and night. Its something really special there so it has to be my top moment.

Have Tik Tok and Instagram reels posting 45 times a day ha. No I’m joking, I think it’s the same as every year and always, make great music that stands out. Don’t just copy trends and try do something someone else has not already done. Try stand out from the crowd with your music, keep it fresh and exciting. There’s sooo much good music now so you’ve gotta stand out and I think if you can do that then you could very easily make it.

We learned again and again at every show of our ‘20 Years Booka Shade’ celebration just how loyal and lovely our fans all over the world are. One thing you’ve learned in 2023?
The electronic music world is probably in its worst state since it came alive. Some well-known Clubs and promoters are struggling, due to rising costs, and less people coming out on a regular basis. For many artists, established and uprising, it is more difficult than ever to make a living from just playing and producing/releasing music. Social media is playing an even bigger role, and for many people, music is the least important thing. Which is funny, since it’s actually called music business. But I also learned, that there are many people in it for the right reasons, who are trying to push music and artists they personally like, instead of following the trends of the commerce side of the business.
2023 Track of the year?
I don’t think there is a track of the year kinda thing. So many great tracks have been released this year. One that stood out for me was the Kenny Larkin remix for youANDme’s Swell Repeat.
Your standout moment of 2023?
Telling the students at the mixmaster-retreat, that if they want to, the tracks that they’ve produced at the retreat will be released on Poker Flat. It was very emotional. It was absolutely priceless to see how happy everyone was, to hear that their music will be released.

One thing you’ve learned in 2023?
Good things take time – that phrase kind of encapsulates the idea that worthwhile or valuable outcomes – such as having an album in the making for 3 years – often require a considerable amount of time, effort, and patience to come to fruition. This concept is applicable to various aspects of life, but for my creative endeavours and simultaneously having your personal life requiring attention, the phrase has certainly matched its essence to me. Stay tuned 😉
2023 Track of the year?
Too many to choose from and at the same time my focus and dedication throughout the year on finishing my album have left less time for digging as deep in the crates as I usually do. But this is a recent fav: Audion vs Radioslave ‘Mouth to Mouth’ (Rekids). A classic that I love (and still play) just got treated into something even more suggestive and danceable, love it.
Your standout moment of 2023?
Releasing music after a three-year hiatus, is a pivotal moment. It showcases my artistic growth, reflects the challenges of the times, and hopefully builds anticipation among my fans and offers a cathartic connection and highlights my whirlwind of feelings through this time.

Whether through unique musical approaches, collaborations, or a distinctive visual identity, she has made a notable impact in the music scene.

MAKEBO
One thing you’ve learned in 2023?
This year I learned a lot of things for myself. First, it’s how important it is to have your home with a peaceful sky above your head. Where you come back and feel at peace, where you gain the energy to create, create music and move on. In the last 2 years I have changed several countries and still am in search of «my home». This very much kicks out of the creativity and development of yourself as an artist.
I also realized that sometimes you have to take a breather to write music. This allows you not to fixate on the same sound of your tracks, but to go beyond and add something new to your music.
And finally, what haunts me in today’s world. How the life of the producer and DJ became closely connected with social networks. This is a «disease» of our days, this fake is not based on music, but on how much you have posted content on social networks. There is nothing real in this and the music has been relegated to the background. Very unfair and primitive, unfortunately…
2023 Track of the year?
No doubt this is my collab track with Volen Sentir – Alchemist. I think we were able in this track to discover something special and new in the music, this track is not like any other.
Your standout moment of 2023?
This is the launch of my music academy, where I help novice producers get on their feet and teach them how to make music. And in addition to the individual lessons, in 2023 I recorded an online course on creating Organic House. You can see it here.
One artist you’ll be watching in 2024?
I will identify two artists whose work is very close to me.
Proff, my old friend who has given out a lot of cool music in the last year. I constantly play his tracks in their sets. He has a lot of unreleased music coming out in the coming year, but for example, I’ll leave this track here.
And the second artist, Kasper Koman. I think this guy really doesn’t look like anyone else, very strong material.
To make it in music in 2024, you must…
Always have and always will: Look for your individuality and don’t try to copy others. This is the only way to become a real artist. In this respect you have to «invent a new bike» and lead your listeners along with a new sound, giving them something new.

LAUREN MIA
One thing you’ve learned in 2023?
One thing I’ve learned in 2023 is that putting out a successful album independently is possible. I want all artists, aspiring and established, to understand that. The industry teaches us early on that we need help and acceptance of a reputable label to succeed. However, I have come to realize this is a limiting belief and a false narrative that keeps us within the bounds of the unwritten rules and limitations of the industry. Of course, having a label supporting you helps, but it’s not a necessity to achieve the same goals or outcomes. If you are an artist, looking to share your music or art with the world, my suggestion is to free yourself of that story. I have…and it has been the most liberating and rewarding experience of my career to date.
2023 track of the year?
My favorite track of the year was the lead single from my album ‘Shadow’ ;).
Though another track I am equally fond of that came out this year is ‘Closure’ by Hollt and Hunter/Game. Hollt particularly is a talented producer and live act I have been supporting for some time. He’s also a lovely, intelligent and humble person outside of his work which matches the intricate art he shares.
Your standout moment of 2023?
My standout moment in 2023 was creating and releasing my first album RE:BIRTH. A collection of 13 versatile originals, sharing my story…a journey of coming home to back to myself. I am very very proud of this milestone.
One artist you’ll be watching in 2024?
An artist I will be keeping my eyes on in 2024 is Fat Cosmoe. He is an incredibly talented producer and an up-and-coming artist. He also just finished up a remix of one of the lead singles from my album, ‘Saturn Return’ which turned out to be an extraordinary and unique take on the original. He’s a true talent and will surely be going places. If you don’t know of him, I highly recommend you change that.
To make it in music in 2024, you must…
Trust your instincts, follow your intuition, and make music that resonates most with your heart and soul. This will transcend and resonate deeply with your fans and listeners, and in my opinion goes far beyond trends. The music that stems from your soul in its purest form is the music that has the potential to last a lifetime. ”

To make it in music in 2024, you must…
define your own success. By that I mean, work out what ‘making it’ means to you. Everyone has a different definition of success so figure out what your version of success is and make a game plan to achieve it. Don’t forget every goal or target you hit is a step in the right direction no matter how small or insignificant it seems.

2023 track of the year?
Hmmm this is a tough one. Maybe ‘(It Goes Like) Nanana’ by Peggy Gou. It’s an anthem and I hear it everywhere I go.
Your standout moment of 2023?
I’ve had a lot of firsts this year, between festivals, music collaborations and label signings – it’s hard to pick a standout moment. But each experience taught me so much about the industry, inspired me to dream bigger and to take a more hands on approach to my own career.
One artist you’ll be watching in 2024?
Bun Xapa is an artist I’ll be watching in 2024. I loved his record, ‘Berlin’; moreover, his sound is received outside of his own afro-house walls – you have other people like Stephan Jolk and Rufus also playing his records.
To make it in music in 2024, you must…
The first thing about making it in music is the music; producing something genuine and unique – being intentional with your creations, and thinking outside of the box. Also, prioritizing your health – traveling so often can wear you down and your daily habits matter.

2023 Track of the year?
‘Against The Wall’ by me and 1111 because it changed my career and life. If we’re talking about someone else’s I’d have to say ‘Startrack’ by Nikki Nair. It’s been a staple in my set all year and he dropped it on Pretty Weird which is run by my phenomenally talented pal, Chloe Robinson.

One thing you’ve learned in 2023?
One thing I’ve learned in 2023 is that perseverance and hard work pay off. As a techno producer, I faced many obstacles and rejections, but I used them as fuel to improve my skills and create better music. I love techno music because it lets me express myself and connect with others through sound. My goal is to keep creating innovative and impactful techno music that can inspire and entertain people around the world.
2023 Track of the year?
My track of the year 2023 is ‘Dark Clouds’. It was a huge success and it motivated me to be more open-minded and creative while producing Peaktime techno. I mixed different genres and influences to create something that was both dark and uplifting. I captured the mood of the year with this track. I’m very grateful for all the support and feedback I received from the techno community and beyond. This track was the best-selling techno track on Beatport and was released on the legendary Drumcode label, which is a huge honor for me.
Your standout moment of 2023:
There were so many standout moments for me in 2023, but the most memorable one was collaborating with my techno hero Umek on the track ‘In The Dark’, which was released on his label 1605. This was a dream come true for me and I learned a lot from working with him. Another highlight was releasing my second track on Drumcode The track is called ‘Wimbo’ and it’s a driving techno tune with fantastic vocals that got heavily supported by a lot of DJs, including some of my idols. Playing a 3.5h B2B set with Levt at the Fairgrounds Festival in Hannover, one of the biggest and most diverse indoor electro festivals in Germany, was also an amazing experience. It was fun to share the stage with him and to see the crowd go wild to our music.
One artist you’ll be watching in 2024
I will definitely watch out for Ozzy Riot from Hamburg. She has a great energy and style, and I love her demos that she produced with Mark Stanton. Hot stuff!
To make it in music in 2024, you must…
you must experiment with new styles, genres, and technologies. You must embrace A.I. as a creative partner, not a competitor. You must blend different sounds and voices to create original compositions. But above all, you must enjoy making music and never lose your passion and vision.
ADRIANNA
One thing you’ve learned in 2023?
In 2023 I’ve learned to relax a bit and be more patient with myself about meeting specific targets or putting too much into things being perfect. Perfect is boring. When creating, for me it’s important to have fun, and that can get lost in too much ambition, or worrying about what other people think. I believe it’s important to set a high standard, but not so high I forget to look around enjoy where I am!
2023 Track of the year?
It’s tough to choose one track of the year, there has been so many great ones. I had a lot of fun with ‘VIVALDI’ by Heatbeat, Alexander Popov. I did ballet for years growing up and have a soft spot for classical music I love combining genres in general and this mix with techno is excellent.
Your standout moment of 2023?
My standout moment for 2023 would probably be playing the Aztec stage at Forbidden Forest. It was my second year at that festival and it was the best time. It’s also a great feeling when people sing along to my releases. At some shows “Got The Night” and “Falling” where recognised and that was pretty cool.
One artist you’ll be watching in 2024?
One artist I’ll be watching in 2024 is Hi- Lo. Just consistent quality and a dream to mix. He’s quite diverse in his releases as well which I love. My favourite release of his this year was Brazil which always goes off and the collaboration he did with Depeche Mode “Speak To Me” is art. I love the chords and its fun to play on the piano where I’ve been spending a lot more time lately.
To make it in music in 2024, you must…
I would say, be resilient, focus on yourself and improving your craft and building an audience who is interested in what you do. Observe and learn from others but don’t compare. We all have unique things to offer and show up in our own way with our own stories and history.
