Adisyn and Nhii represent the new establishment in the deep and melodic scene. A community of like-minded, driven, and talented individuals continues to grow across the international scene, fostering collaborations and support for producers across the world. This community continues to provide amazing music, and Adisyn and Nhii are at the forefront of all that is good and groovy.
The two comrades continue to make huge impacts on the deep and melodic scene, both in their own New York and Miami, and also amongst the international scene with releases on a plethora of the most tight-knit labels around, such as Klassified, Kindisch, Akbal, Flying Circus, and Manjumasi.
As a part of the upstart WhenWeDip imprint TOR, Adisyn and Nhii come together to showcase the top tier single ‘Sending Light’. Harbored on the Tales of Romance VA, the label’s signature series, they link with the likes of Saultloom, Wassu, and VieL for a collection brimming with grooves.
Collaborations are a pillar of the label program at When We Dip, as they capture the community and collective essence of electronic music. Sending Light brings the two minds together in a tune dripping in quality and groove. A rolling melody meets tripped out vocal hits and synth stabs, all culminating in big kicks. Dancefloor moments a plenty for this tune, as soon as possible!
To celebrate the release, and dive into its creation, we caught up with Adisyn and Nhii for a chat about life and music.
WWD – Hey lads, thanks for joining us today!
Adisyn – Thank you for having us!
Nhii – Yes, it’s my pleasure!
WWD – Many congrats on the release of Sending Light! It’s got an irresistible vibe that’s we’ve been loving on WhenWeDip office speakers for many weeks now. What’s one word to describe this track?
Adisyn – Playful.
Nhii – Frisky 🙂
WWD – We’re incredibly lucky to host your first released collaboration together. How did you guys first connect?
Adisyn – We originally connected online. We both released music on Kindisch and Wayu Records. We began sending ideas back and forth intending on collaborating. It was not until Nhii came to my studio in Miami that we completed an idea.
WWD – How does the nature of electronic music foster collaboration and camaraderie amongst producers?
Nhii – With the right soundcard you are able to record in high quality and quick everywhere in the world. Also the plugins for DAW (Digital Audio Workstations) have become insanely powerful. Furthermore DJ’s have also been quite social, at least at night. So I think, at least in my case, it’s great to collaborate as a form of social interaction, – especially during this weird times.
WWD – What specific traits do you look for in production partners?
Adisyn – The most important thing for me is that I like their music. It is interesting to see how other people work. I guess I look for people with skill and a sound that resonates with me. I don’t like doing all the work. And working with someone like Nhii is great because he knows what he’s doing. He has spent time learning his craft. Nhii always brings ideas to the table that surprise me.
Nhii – Thank you for the kind words. It’s easy to collaborate with someone like Adisyn. Every move he makes, makes sense. Very well trained producer with a fine ear. Besides the technical and musical skills, i want to work with people who spread the right vibes. It’s just as important.
WWD – You each have been making terrific strides in the last few years, gaining deserved recognition from some of electronics music’s top tastemakers and labels. What’s been the proudest moment of your journey thus far?
Adisyn – Some big moments for me were gaining support from my favorite artists. I remember in 2019, Guy J played my song “Morph” in one of his studio mixes. Also, collaborating with Brian Cid last year was a big achievement. It is humbling to be supported and working with professionals like this. My record “Departure” was also a pivotal moment. I never had a song chart in the top 10. That song placed me on the map and gave me confidence. I have a long way to go, but these moments of success show I am doing something right.
Nhii – As my journey is still young, i haven’t reached my goals yet but there have been some unexpected stats I can be proud of. Being ranked in the top 15 producers in Electronica and Top 40 in Organic House on Beatport (regarding to Beatstats.com) helps me to believe in myself. Also it helps me to take a break and acknowledge and be thankful for the opportunity i get currently..
WWD – You are both part of a tight knit community within the deep/melodic scene. Everybody seems to know everybody at this moment. How important is this community to life as a producer?
Adisyn – I love the tight knit community. It feels like family when I go to clubs or travel. I have many artist friends I can send music to for honest feedback. We are trying to help each other grow.
Nhii – It’s just wonderful. I’ve been DJing for 15 years, but I never experienced a scene this welcoming and open. I’ve started as Nhii about 2 years ago and it has been an exchange of human love through the experience of music.
WWD – If you could go back two years and give one piece advice to your previous selves, what would it be?
Adisyn – Find mentors. Search for people that are ahead of you and take their advice, carefully. This will help you reach your goals quicker. Also, it is important to have more than one mentor.
Nhii – It’s necessary to find people who also believe in yourself, just like you. I am extremely thankful for my manager and my girlfriend.
WWD – How have you been spending the last couple of months?
Nhii – Beside the daily hustle in my studio, i was trying to explore New York State a bit. I just moved here last November from Germany. Got to see nice places like Mauntauk and the Catskills.
WWD – You two are based in major hubs of dance music, Miami and New York. How has the rapid halt of nightlife affected your local scenes?
Adisyn – Although the club scene has temporarily stopped, we are still making music. Perhaps more than before. For artists, we can’t stop creating. It is a part of our daily life. Now it is time to create a world for people in the digital medium. Soon we can have our physical scene back.
Nhii – I have spoken to a few promoters and organisers here and they all share the same opinion. New York will come back once again, just like many times before. But for now, we have to be patient and follow the guidelines. Luckily, most promoters are very responsible and cautious.
WWD – What’s been the biggest silver lining of the pandemic for each of you this summer?
Adisyn – I’m starting to teach myself things I’ve always wanted to learn. I’m getting into video editing, digital design and producing tutorials. I started a youtube page and will be posting more content soon. I have more free time on my hands. I’m trying to take advantage of that. It is important we adapt and try to have fun with the change.
Nhii – I have created a Patreon page where i share my knowledge and give insights into my craft. It’s been surprisingly much fun to connect with producers all over the planet and exchange ideas how to make their tracks better. I am also releasing my sample packs exclusively on patreon.
WWD – How have you seen the music scene, specifically within electronic music, bring light to these dark days?
Nhii – Live Streaming is probably the thing which has been exciting. It’s by far not like the real experience but it is definitely an interesting process.
WWD – How do you think dance music will change in the long term due to the extremity of the pandemic?
Nhii – If you take a closer look, right now platforms like Twitch are not regulated and artists don’t earn any money from plays on those plattform. This is something which will have to change for sure. Without gigs, this should be our best income revenue, but it’s not an income at all. And as I observe the way we abuse animal rights as a human race, we will face another pandemic at some point. Hopefully we learn from this experience now and make it easier for venues, labels and artists.
WWD – What artists and labels have you guys been jamming to over the summer? What’s been the track at the top of your playlist?
Adisyn – Mark Slee, Dave Pad, Jon Hopkins, Vincent Casanova and Andrey Djackonda. These people are creating stellar tunes!
Nhii – A tribe called Kotori, Kinidsch, Kamai, Akbal, DNSOTF, Turu Anasi, Iorie & Coss’s new project Ki.ya.tori is exciting, Amentia.. just to to name a few.
WWD – What’s next on the release calendar for you guys?
Adisyn – I have a new EP on Kindisch, two completed collaborative EPs, and a few solo tracks. I don’t have specific dates yet. Will make announcements shortly!
Nhii – I have upcoming Ep’s on Kamai, Kindisch, Akbal, A tribe called Kotori, Bar 25 / Sirin and remixes on my beloved Rebellion der Traumer, Trndmsk and more.
WWD – In conclusion, thanks again for sharing your time and music with us. We are tremendously lucky to work with artists such as yourselves! Enjoy the dwindling days of summer and we hope to see you behind the decks as soon as possible 🙂
Adisyn – I’m looking forward to a big celebration when this is over. Thank you.
Nhii – Absolutely let’s have a celebration when this is over. Also time to say that I appreciate what you are doing at When we dip. It has been one of my go to blogs in the last years. Much love!
