Berlin based DJ and producer Cinthie is a well-known figure in the German capital’s house music scene, as well as being the creative mind behind several record labels such as Beste Modus and Unison Wax. She is currently a resident at Berlin’s Watergate, where her vinyl-only sets and ability to compose deep sounds intertwined with a heavy bass-line and boomin’ kick drums are notorious among music fans.
Cinthie, along with Deigo Krause, Ed Herbst and Stevn.aint.leavn represent the Best Modus/ Beste Freunde collective, all sharing the same love for house music and Berlin’s legendary unending parties. In 2014, Cinthie began to run Unison Wax, a vinyl only label, dedicated to only then best of house music.
1. Italojohnson – 07 Floorplan Remix
The ‘Italos’ are the reason why we share the same distributor which is Diamonds n Pearls and we could not have wished for a better one. They are my favorite underground artists and every single release is pure fire. When they came up with the idea to get some of their EPs remixed I could not wait for the results. That Floorpan remix is a killer and keeps the rawness of the original. Played it so many times now!
2. Lionrock – Packet of Piece – Jeff Mills Deep House Remix
I recently found a new studio and moved out all my stuff from my old one. Was so good to go through some older stuff and find some almost forgotten gems, like this one from around 1993. I love the ravey vibes of the Piano stabs and it still sounds soooo fresh.
3. Tom Trago – Use me again – Carl Craig rework
When I bought this record ages ago I knew this would blew off the roofs off Panorama Bar and indeed I have heard it so many times there….some years ago now, when I was still young and had the energy to go every Sunday… hahaha! Okay, I’m still young and I am need of another long Sunday at PBar soon 😉
4. Kerri Chandler – Checkmate – Cinthie remix
Ok, little bit of self promotion here but I’m ecstatic about the result of my remix for Kerri Chandler. I tried to make a more stripped back house tune out of it. One of the DJ magazines said, it’s soooo horibble, and it’s better not to talk about it, but Mixmag premiered it because they loved it! I will probably add that to my artist bio one day… ‘Cinthie produces music that ranges from pretty shit to pretty dope.’ But you can decide for yourself if you like it or not 🙂
5. Loskober – Lake Michigan – Andy Hart remix
When two of my favorite producers get together then it can only be good. Here we have the incredible Adryiano, who’s a king on the MPC and the amazing Kastil joining forces for Saft records. The label is also one of my favourites, and when It came out the Andy Hart remix really tickled my ears. Such a dope tune with a simple but effective bassline, a typical Andy Hart slammer.
6. Janeret – Kord – Diego Krause remix
Diego Krause, well what can I say about this guy? I think he is one of the most talented producers out there at the moment. When we first met a while ago now, I was blown away by his music and that was the reason why we started Beste Modus, because I said we needed to release this stuff. When he came up to me a while later with the idea to release more music and maybe try a solo EP, we quickly came up with the idea for Unison Wax. The rest is history and although we don’t see each other too often as we are both super busy, he will always have my full support no matter what. Here he is remixing one of Paris’ rising stars, Janeret. Every track is on point and here I love the special Diego groove and subtile changes he has made, this tune is timeless.
7. Earth Wind n Fire – Devotion – Folamour Edit
This one is not really a remix, I think you would called it more an edit. You can find this version on Folamours new album, which is incredibly dope btw. It’s not released yet but I was lucky enough to get the promo and when I played it in a club, the roof went off. One of those tune everyone will ask for track ID or you see people shaming in the corners!
8. Ka:St – Lost in Paris – Steaward remix
It’s not a secret that I have a strong connection with France, the artists and music coming from there. DJ Steaw is one of my favorite producers and DJs and have been friends for a long time now. DJ Steaw remixed his good friends Ka:St track lost in Paris under his Steaward alias and it’s pure fire. You can easily play it in a house or even techno set. The energy is absolutely incredible.
9. Nthng – 1996
Nthg sampled De la soul and it’s soooo good. Again… it’s not really a remix, so not sure if it should be in this list but I love this tune so much and usually when I play for more that 3 or 4 hours and I go a bit harder, this tune kills it every time.
10. Kerri Chandler – Back to the raw – Mike Dehnert unreleased remix
Unfortunately this remix is not released yet and I’m not sure if it will ever be released. Mike gave me this remix a long time ago and I was playing it every now and then. I love what Mike has made out of the tune, a typical Mike Dehnert groover, perfect for all the dark and dusty undergrou
