After a fine display from Sonar Kollektiv’s Stee Downes last week, WWD episode three welcomes up and coming Montréal duo Maxime Ezekiel and Louis Vee, better known as EZLV. The pair have been impressing as of late having accumulated some quality releases, they also made their debut recently on Kruse & Nuernberg’s rising label Save Room records. The boys have kindly rinsed some tunes for the WWD crew (which includes their impending Plant Music release with Freya) and they’ve taken the time to tell us a little bit about the project. It’s all below, enjoy!

EZLV – When We Dip 003 by When We Dip on Mixcloud
WWD : For those new to EZLV tells us a little about the project?
EZLV: EZLV is a duo of producers / djs from Montreal. We produced and played mostly deep house and nu disco. It’s been about 5 years now that the project is on the road.
WWD : We’ve really enjoyed your recent releases. There’s lots of energy in the tracks, something that’s evident from your WWD mix as well. What can you tell us about your style and how it has developed?
EZLV : First of all thanks a lot for the compliment! We really enjoyed the summer vibe lately so we tried to express it throught our latest tracks. We also considered for a long time to work with vocalists instead of using vocal samples and that’s why our current Ep on Plant music have this kinda vibe. We also tried to keep the deep house touch – that is our roots! About our mix, we tried to put tracks that are melodic as well as efficient on a dancefloor!
WWD : As always, one for the producers out there, what are the EZLV production essentials? Any killer pieces/synths etc you can’t go without?
EZLV : Our studio is pretty minimalist to be honest. We use mostly Ableton and a midi controller. We used to put Reason on rewire through Ableton, but not really lately. About the VST synths we use, we really like the bundle from KORG, the M1, MS-20, Mono/Poly, etc.
WWD : Montreal has developed quite a reputation internationally for its music scene, is it warranted? Has it been a good base for you guys?
EZLV : Yes, it is a super place with amazing festivals and very good venues. There are really great artists coming almost every week, our scene is very vibrant. So we consider ourselves pretty lucky to be from MTL, as we can easily meet people who share the same musical taste!
WWD : In your opinion, where are the 3 best spots to hear good music in Montreal?
EZLV: Stereo / Salon Daome / Piknik Electonik (Igloofest)
WWD : Any other local talent you’d recommend checking out?EZLV: Iron Galaxy, My favorite Robot, Paolo Rocco, Tazz, etc.
WWD : One track and one artist that are gonna kill it this summer?
EZLV: Ohh, that’s a hard one! There’s this duo called Bordetown from UK, they are pretty talented, check them out!
WWD :Lastly, what’s the schedule like for the next few months? where can we catch you and will we see more new music?
EZLV : We plan to stay in Montreal for the next couple of months, having some gigs in different venues. Apart from the Plant Music collab with Freya, what’s next on the agenda is a new EP on Kruse & Nuernberg’s Save Room, with a killer remix from Kellerkind, but also two nice tracks on the Ibiza label Seamless. We are also working on a project with Bordertown, Stil & Bense are working on a remix and it’s sounding great! Stay tuned!”
