Friday night in the Kitchen, Dublin, was how it should be. A dedicated crowd there for the right reasons. People who knew the music of Hot Since 82 intimately. They knew what to expect and their expectations were sky high. Thankfully the diminutive Leeds native didn’t disappoint. With the We Love Fridays crew laying on a superb warmup (local favourites Jonathan Kiely & Lorcan Mak) you could sense that the Dublin crowd had been teed up perfectly for the deep dark grooves that were to follow.
As we alluded to in our preview Hot Since 82 has delivered a plethora of tracks over the past 12 months meaning his sets have a distinct flow and personal touch so often missing these days. The perrenial favourite ‘Knee Deep In Louise’ actually made an earlier than anticipated appearance around the 1.30 mark but it had an energizing effect on the crowd jolting them forward. From there on in they were hooked in by those thumping kicks and lush basslines. We were treated to a Deep House tour de force with plenty of new material (unreleased ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ a particular highlight) and a few surprises thrown in for good effect. On the strength of this night it won’t be long before HS82 makes a return visit to Dublin!
Two little tracks that hit the spot for us plus a nice little hotcast to bring those memories flooding back!
